‘I am just an actor, not a hero’

‘I am just an actor, not a hero’
“I am just an actor, not a hero” said renowned actor Prakash Raj. Acting as a hero or an anti hero doesn’t make any difference, he added.  He was speaking at ‘In conversation’, with film critic Madhu Eravankara at the 16th IFFK. He also said that an actor is only a colour in the painting, not the entire painting. It’s the director’s and writer’s choice to place it well.
“I was lucky to be in theatre at a time when the art form was predominant in Karnataka. I owe everything to theatre because that is where I started from”, he said. He added that one should not compare theatre and cinema because both are entirely different.
Sharing his experiences of working in films like Iruvar, Kanchivaram, Nagamandala and Electra, he said that Kanchivaram as a film that shattered his comfort zone and that whatever he learned till then,  was not enough to act in the film.
Prakash Raj’s upcoming projects include Dhoni, a film about a boy who wants to be a cricketer but his father pressures on education. “The film questions the current education system”, he said. He also said that he has plans to remake the Malayalam films like Traffic and Salt and Pepper.
“Malayalam cinema has amazing young talents and personalities” he said. Mohanlal has impressed him a lot. “He doesn’t make us feel as acting” Prakash Raj added.
