65 Countries; Around 200 Films

IFFK to start on 9th of December

The International Film Festival, in which various lifestyles, cultures, traditions and presentation styles converge, will be held in Trivandrum from Decemeber 9 to 16th. Around 200 films from 65 countries will be screened in 15 different sections.
15 Films in the competitive section from Asia-Africa & Latin America will be the main focus of the Festival.

Four films from India are included in the competitive section. They are ‘Abosheshey’ (At the end of it all), the film from Bengal by Aditi Roy, ‘Delhi in a Day’, in Hindi by Prashath Nair and two Malayalam films; Salim Ahmed’s ‘Adaminte Makan Abu’ and Shery’s ‘Adimadhyantham’.

There are four entries in the “Kaidan Horror Classic” section which are the visualizations of famous horror stories of Japan. These films present a novel visual experience to the viewers.

The soccer films which portray the briskness of football game in the colourful vision of the screen will be a special experience. 7 Soccer films are included in the “Kicking and Screening” section.

‘Two Half-Times in Hell’ directed by the Hungarian filmmaker Zoltan Fabri, set in the scenario of Naziera, although familiar to the audience, will be a unique experience for the young generation.

Brand new films from the Arab countries like Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, Syria, Lebanon, which caught the attention of the world for their revolt against tyrannic and anti-popular regimes are included in the Arab section. These films which portray the social situations created by political instability in the life of ordinary folk render contemporary relevance to the festival. Eight films are screened in this section.

Films by Robert Bresson, Nagisa Oshima, Theodoros Angelopoulos, Adolfas Mekas, Yasuzo Masumura, Djibril Diop Mambéty, Madhu are included in the retrospective section.

Bresson who made a spiritual voyage is a giant of French cinema.
Au Hasard Balthazar that made a donkey its main character is a much-celebrated film. Six films by Bresson will open new doors to the visual history to the film students.
The films of Nagiza Oshima, contemporizes Kurosawa  period to a great extent, are powerful enough to move the heart of the moviegoers.

Theodoros Angelopoulos is one among the most top listed living filmmakers. His four films will give the fest more meaning.

Yasuzo Masumura is another filmmaker who learned the art of filmmaking under the guidance of Antonioni, Fellini and Visconti. He also worked as the assistant of Kon Ichikawa and Mizoguchi. Four of his films will be screened.

The eight films of Djibril Diop, the prominent filmmaker of Senegal will be a new experience for the audience.

Four films of the ever loved mollywood actor Madhu will be screened in the retrospective.

The DEFA films, which was the first film production company in post-war Germany includes eight films. This eight package film which is based on the socialist ideals of the pre-existed East-Germany will trace the history.

There are seven films, each in Indian and Malayalam film categories.
Eight films from different nations, which have been suggested for the FIPRESCI award, will be a vivid experience with its splendid theme and style of presentation. In the homage session, there are eight films of Raoul Ruiz, Mani Kaul and Tariq Masood.
The seven films from Philippines which ranked a special place in the world film scenario will make the fest more relevant.

In the Contemporary-Masters-in-Focus session includes four films of the prominent Turkey filmmaker Semih Kaplanoglu. The world cinema section, which is the amalgamation of varied cultures, includes 79 films.

The festival which will be held at 11 venues runs through 9th to16th of December.
The venue for the film festival includes Kairali, Sree, Kalabhavan, New, Sreekumar, Sreevishak, Ajantha, Sreepadmanabha, Dhanya, Remya theaters for the delegates, while  Nishagandi open-air auditorium will be opened up for the public.
