SHOW WILL BEGIN TOMMOROW (09.12.2011)

One hundred and Ninety Six Films from Sixty Five Countries will be exhibited in fifteen different Sections. One Hundred and Twenty Invitees, including seventy dignitaries from abroad, will participate.
`Competition Section’ comprises of eleven films, from Asia, Africa and Latin America. Four of them are from Latin America itself. Two Indian Films are also in the list.
Great Film personalities including, veteran Malayalam Actor Madhu, are admired in the `Retrospective Section’. Films of French Director Robert Bresson, Nagisa Oshima, Yasuzo Masumura (Japanese Directors) , Greek Filmmaker Theodoros Angelopoulos,  Sinegalese Filmmaker Djibril Diop Mambety, , American (Lithuanian- born) Film Director Adolfas Mekas are screened in this section.
Four films made in between 2005-10, by Turkish Filmmaker Semih Kaplanoglu, will be exhibited in the `Contemporary Master in Focus’ section of the Festival.Eight movies from Arab countries like Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Syria, and Lebanon are included in the `Arab Cinema Section’. Six of them are 2011 production and reflects the latest political development in Middle East.
`Horror Classic Section’ includes four films of the renowned Kaidan Horror Classics. Seven Soccor Films are included in the `Kicking and Screening Section’.A package of eight films from the first film production house of post war (east) Germany named as DEFA will be screened in the `Defa Section’.
Seven films are exhibited in `Homage Section’. Mani Kaul, Raoul Ruiz, Tareeque Masud and Elzabeth Tailor are rememberd in this section. Film `T D Dasan Std.VI’, by late Malayalam Director Mohan Raghavan, will also be screened in this section.
Indian Film Section and Malayalam Film Section include seven films each. Seven Films will be screened in the Philippini Cinema Section and Eight films, nominated for FIPRESCI awards, in the `Best of FIPRESCI Section’. Seventy three films from different part of the world will be screened in `World Cinema Section’. Films by Masters like Aleksander Sukrov, Andrei Zvyagintsev(Russia), Wim Wenders (Germany), Julia Murat, to satisfy world cinema lovers, are in  this section.
Events

Inauguration:

On 09th Friday at 06.00 pm at Nishagandhy , by H’ble Chief Minister Ommen Chandy. Minister for Cinema, Forest, Wildlife and Sports K B GaneshKumar will preside the meeting and Bollywood Actress Jaya Bachan will be the chief guest.
Function will be followed by a 23 minutes cultural show named as Destiny’s Dice, directed by renowned film director T K Rajivkumar and there after the opening film ` Under the Hawthron Tree’, directed by Chinese Filmmaker Zhang YiMou.
On 14th Wednesday at Hotel Horizon, renowned football historian and writer Jan Tilman, will render a lecture on the political as well as cultural impact of the game.
On 14th Wednesday at Sree Theatre,  Aravindan Memorial Lecture  will be delivered by Tunisian Director Elyes Baccar.  Subject: Role of Filmmakers in Arab social upheaval.
Meet the Press with participating Filmmakers, Channel Discussion at Hotel Horizon, Open Forum at  New Theatre (05.00 pm), In Conversation with Celebrities at  at Sree Theatre(02.00 pm), are the every day events.
`Trigger Pitch’, a programme to promote IDFSK awarded Documentaries will be conducted. A project to promote Malayalam cinema exclusively, named as` Marketing Malayalam Cinema’ will be conducted as a part of the festival, under the coordination of Ravindran, film actor.
As an act of homage to Aranmula Ponnamma, Sarangapani, Johnson, Mullanezhi, Kakkanadan, MT Abu, Machaan Varghese,the recently departed Malayalam film personalities,  touring talkies will exhibit their films from 09th to 14th.
Kairali, Sree, Kalabhavan, New, Sreekumar, Sreevisakh, Ajantha, SreePadmanabha, Dhanya, Remya are the theatres where the films are screened for delegates and participants. Screening will be done at Nishagandhi, for public.
                                                                                                                              



JURY
Renowned Australian Director Bruce Beresford is the Jury Chairman for Competative Section. French filmmaker, writer and photographer Laurence Gavron, Philippine Director Jeffry Juttrian, Turkish Director  Semih Kaplanogolu, Actor and Director Rahul Bose are the other Jury Members of Competative Section.French Writer and Journalist Defne Gursoy, Philipine filmmaker and Director of the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival Nestor o Jardin, Indian Filmmaker Sunil Doshi, are the members for NETPAC Jury.FIPROSI jury consists of Pakistani Writer and Film Critic Aljaz Gul, Italian Film critic Robert Donati and   Indian Film Critic  Vidya Sanker Doshi. Romanian Filmmaker Adrian Sitaru, Writer cum Teacher Rachel Dwyer and Director Dr. Biju are the jury members of Hassankutty Award.

AWARDS
Golden Crow Pheasant Award- Suvarna Chakoram- and cash prize of Rs. Fifteen lakhs, which will be shared equally to the Director and Producer of the Best Film. The Best Director will be awarded with Silver Crow Pheasant Award- Rajatha Chakoram - and a cash prize of       Rs. Four lakhs. Best Debut Director will be awarded with Silver Crow Pheasant Award- RajathaChakoram- and a cash prize of Rs. Two lakhs.

FIPRESCI Award, award endowed by the society of international film critics –FIPRESCI- will be given to best Malayalam movie. Award endowed by the Network for promotion of Asian Cinema – NETPAC Award will be given to best Asian film in Competition Section. Award endowed by Mira Nair - Hassankutty Award with a cash prize worth Rs. Fifty thousand, is for the best Indian debut Director. An award for Best Festival Reporting will also be given to print, audio, visual and online media.

Ten thousand film lovers, including One thousand and Three hundred women and Two thousand Students, had registered. Like early festivals, Delegates can book their seats well in advance.
